Police spend more than 10 hours in standoff with man in street

An overnight standoff with a man who barricaded himself inside a house came to an end this morning.

Armed police officers along with emergency services descended on Gordon Road, Seaforth, just after 8.15pm yesterday and surrounded a house.

Police said there was a "concern for safety" for a man who lived at the property, sparking a massive response with five fire engines, two incident response units and countless police vehicles at the scene.

Officers carrying guns and shields could be seen outside the property while specialist negotiators engaged with the man inside.

Road closures and diversions were also put in place around Gordon Road.

No-one else was in the property.

Police said the incident came to an end this morning.

A spokesperson added: "We can confirm that the male at the address on Gordon Road, Seaforth, came out of the house at 6.40am this morning (Saturday, 4 April) following extensive negotiations with specialist officers.

"The 39-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of affray."
