Police speed checks planned for Stanningley Road this week

Speed checks will be carried out on busy Stanningley Road this week in a bid to raise awareness about the dangers of speeding.

As reported in the West Leeds Dispatch , it was revealed that over 1,000 road traffic collisions happened on Stanningley Road and the Stanningley Bypass over the past 10 years.

Now residents are joining officers on Thursday to monitor the speed of drivers along the stretch. It comes as locals are calling for more action to reduce speeding.

The checks will happen between 11am and 2pm - the location is yet to be revealed.

"We are very pleased that Highways and our local neighbourhood police team are supporting the concerns we have raised on behalf of the community", Cllr Lou Cunningham said.

"We are hoping that people will come out to take part in this action day and others that we arrange in the coming months.”

Cllr Cunningham said the exact details of exactly where the speed watch will be held on Stanningley Road will be shared on the new  Armley Community Road Safety group  on Facebook.
