Police smash through glass front door during morning drugs raid in West Bridgford

Police discovered knives, phones and 'white powder residue' on a designer box after they smashed their way into a home during a morning raid.

Officers barged through a glass door of the property in West Bridgford just after 8am on Monday, September 6, with eight police officers, three cars and a van also on the scene.

They then proceeded to search the house in an attempt to seize drugs as part of an operation to disrupt criminal activity in the area.

Police said no illegal weapons or concrete evidence were found at the scene, although knives were discovered in one of the rooms. No arrests were made.

Police Sergeant James Russ, of Rushcliffe Outreach team, added: "No illegal weapons were found at the scene, however we found knives and five phones in just one of the rooms.

"We also found white powder residues in a Louis Vuitton box.

"We will be carrying out more operations in the Central Avenue to stop the supply and possession of drugs."

Residents who spotted the heavy police presence in the area said they were "not surprised".

Robert Hall, 31, was walking his dog on the road where the police cars where parked and said: "I am happy that the police are doing something about it.

"It is not really concerning, nor surprising.

"But it is reassuring to know that police are searching the house if they suspect something."

Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, added: "We got used to seeing police on drug raids around here.

"It is becoming more and more of a problem.

"At this point I am just happy that no one got hurt and it is just a drug raid.

"The neighbours are always concerned about the drug problems in the area."

Designer John Macaulay, 51, added: "I am very surprised because this is a nice area.

"A lot of families live here and it is concerning that something like this could happen on this road.

"This area is like a village - everyone knows everyone.

"I love it here so I am worried."
