Police slam biker who crashed into Fiat and smashed head on windscreen

Police have slammed an uninsured biker who crashed into an "innocent" driver whilst riding without a helmet.

Officers were called to Laithwaite Road in Wigan on Saturday evening, August 27, after the crash.

When they got there, they found the driver of a Fiat 500 had been heading down the road towards the junction with Ridyard Street when she encountered a male biker coming towards her.

The 26-year-old was allegedly riding a black, off-road bike without a helmet, a licence, or insurance.

As he headed towards her, the man lost control of his bike, smashing into the front of the Fiat and slamming his head on the windscreen.

When police arrived, the man and the bike had both left the scene, but officers soon found him in a nearby house with a number of injuries.

The man was taken to hospital after being reported for the crash, and will be taken to court.

Officers posted a picture of the damage to the car on the GMP Wigan West Facebook page.

A post alongside the picture read: "During the evening of Saturday August 27 police officers responded to reports of a road traffic collision on Laithwaite Road, Worsley Hall.

"It was established that the innocent female driver of a Fiat 500 was driving along this road towards the junction with Ridyard Street.

"Coming quickly in the opposite direction was an unlicensed and uninsured 26-year-old local male, riding a black off-road motorbike and not wearing a helmet.

"The ambition of this male far outweighed his ability because he lost control of his bike and collided with the front of the Fiat.

"The damage that can be seen to the windscreen was caused by the male's head on impact.

"To those who ride these illegal bikes, you are not invincible.

"Not only might you kill yourself or someone else, you could also leave an innocent motorist with a damaged car and a hefty repair bill."

Anyone with information about people riding illegal bikes, or with knowledge over where the bikes are stored, is asked to contact Greater Manchester Police.

Alternatively, the independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
