Police shut road for five hours over concerns for safety of a man

Police closed a road for five hours this morning, after reports for concerns for the safety of a man.

Officers put up tape restricting access both ways on Knowsley Road, Bootle, after calls about a man in a property on Byron Street. The closure was in place between Rimrose Road to Stanley Road from around 7.30am on Friday, October 7.

North West ambulance service and Merseyside fire and rescue service were also at the scene of the incident. Police have confirmed that a man has now left a property and has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

The man has been taken to hospital while further enquiries are being carried out. A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "We can confirm an incident on Byron Street in Bootle has now been stood down.

"We were contacted at 7.30am today, Friday 7th October, following concern for the safety of a man in a property. The man has now engaged with officers.

"He has left the property and been detained under the mental health act and taken to hospital as further enquiries are carried out. Road closures in the area are in the process of being removed.

"We would like to thank members of the public for their patience as the matter was being dealt with."
