Police shut off road after man collapses in street

A road in Stockport was cordoned off by police after a man suffered a 'medical emergency'.

Police and paramedics were called to Stopford Street in Edgeley at 9.20am on Monday.

The man was later taken to hospital.

No further details of the incident have been released, but a witness told the Manchester Evening News the man had collapsed in the street.

He added: "I just hope everyone is alright."

Stopford Street remained cordoned off on Monday lunchtime.

Pictures from the scene show several police vehicles in attendance while a large part of the terraced street was taped off.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at around 9.20am this morning to reports of a man suffering a medical episode.

"Ambulance attended and the man has been taken to hospital."

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We received a 999 call at 9.15am reporting a patient suffering a medical emergency.

"An ambulance and a response vehicle attended.

"It looks as though they have been taken to the hospital."
