Police shut off major road after finding injured man following 'disturbance'

Police shut off a major road tonight after a 'disturbance'.

Officers were called to Bury New Road, in Heywood, between Whalley Road and Heady Hill Road at about 9.30pm.

They shut the road off after finding an injured man, who has since been taken to hospital.

The road reopened just after 11pm.

In a statement, a spokesman for GMP said: "Police were called to a report of a disturbance at Bury New Road.

"Upon arrival there was a male who had an injury. He was taken to hospital by NWAS. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

"A 200m stretch of Bury New Road was shut whilst police continue their investigations."
