Police shut motorway for more than two hours after van crash

A motorway was halted and cleared after a van crash this afternoon.

The M57 was shut for more than two hours after a single vehicle collision, believed to be a van.

Emergency services attended the scene, with the motorway being shut in both directions from around 2pm to 4.15pm.

Emergency services shut the M57 north & south between J6 (Kirkby) & J7 (Switch Island), with traffic quickly building following the incident.

A National Highways spokesman said at the time: "Traffic within the closure is moving past the scene, if you are currently stationary please remain in your vehicle as you will be moving again soon."

It has now been confirmed that the driver sustained minor injuries in the crash, that left the van at the side of the carriageway.

Photos show that the van suffered extensive damage.
