Police shut down mass gathering of cars in Tesco car park

Police officers shut down a "car cruise" just 20 minutes after motorists had gathered at a supermarket car park.

A group of car enthusiasts had planned to meet up at Tesco in Ystrad Mynach at 6pm.

However officers from Ystrad Mynach and Bargoed neighbourhood patrol teams were at the scene by 6.20pm to shut down the meet.

On Twitter, the officers from Gwent Police posted a picture from the scene, saying "Started at 6pm closed down by 6.20pm."

They added the hashtags: "Not on our watch" and "find somewhere else".

Similar car meet ups have become popular in recent months.

In July, South Wales Police were called to a mass gathering as hundreds of cars took over a Tesco car park in Cardiff. The cars were said to be doing doughnuts in the car park.

Here's what happened back in July:

There was also anger over late-night car racers in Newport who were said to be ' as noisy as aeroplanes '.

However the organisers of that meet up had promised to take action against the trouble makers and insisted those that were causing trouble were a small minority.
