Police shut busy road after tractor crashes into car and demolishes a lamp-post

A road in Stockport was closed following a collision between a car and a tractor.

Neither driver was hurt during the crash which demolished a lamp-post.

Police were called to Bramhall Lane South at 3.51pm and the road had to be closed between Midland Road and Grange Road while emergency workers cleared the wreckage.

The road was re-opened at around 5.30pm.

The crash happened at a crossing and damaged a signal post. No pedestrian was hurt in the incident, however.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed no-one was hurt during a collision involving a VW saloon and a tractor, adding that officers were looking into the circumstances around the crash.

Bus services were diverted while the road was shot, according to Transport for Greater Manchester.

Pictures from the scene showed a lamp-post had been damaged and wreckage and sand strewn at the side of the carriageway.
