Police have shot a 16-year-old boy in the chest after he allegedly threatened them with a knife at a house in the Ipswich suburb of Springfield, south of Brisbane.
Police had earlier described the victim as a young man and other sources said he was in his early 20s, but police later confirmed he was a teenager.
Detective Superintendent Brian Swan said police were called to a disturbance at a house in Danube Crescent on Wednesday afternoon, where they met with family members.
He said when officers tried to enter the house they were confronted by the teenager, who was holding a knife.
"As we understand it, that young person threatened the officers," Superintendent Swan said.
"At around that time, he approached the officers at the front entryway to the house armed with a knife.
"The police officers drew their firearms and the young person, the 16-year-old person, was shot once we believe."
But Superintendent Swan said it was suspected more than one shot was fired.
"We understand both police fired, but that has not been confirmed," he said.
"The officers were wearing cameras … the footage will be examined by ethical standards command."
Police said the boy was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers also spoke to reporters at the scene of the shooting.
He said it was "a great thing" that the officers were wearing video cameras and that this would prove very helpful in the investigation.
"The police were actually doing their job and they're now fully cooperating with the ethical standards command and they'll be supported by the police union.
"No doubt that will continue into the late hours of tonight and maybe the early hours of tomorrow morning."
He said the two officers were "doing as well as can be expected" but that the incident was traumatic for both the officers and the family.
