Police have shot and seriously injured a man in south London, ending a seven-hour siege at a residential property.
Officers were escorting a housing official to the residential address in Tilson Gardens, Brixton, on Friday morning as part of a pre-planned eviction when the incident unfolded, Scotland Yard said.
Unarmed officers tried to enter the property at around 9:45am, when a man emerged from one of the rooms.
Officers then withdrew and a police negotiator, London Ambulance Service (LAS) and firearms officers were called to the scene.
The event came to a climax when police officers shot the man outside the premises, some seven hours later, at around 4:45pm.
Ambulance staff treated the man at the scene, before he was taken to a south London hospital suffering serious injuries.
A Yard spokesman said that, as in any shooting, officers from the Metropolitan Police's directorate of professional standards had been informed, and the incident had been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, which has started an independent investigation.
