Police have shot a man during a dawn raid in Birmingham.

West Midlands Police forced their way into the house in Edgbaston looking for a man wanted in connection with a firearms offence.

Officers entered the property at 5am and recovered a gun that was seized for forensic examination.

“Four men and two women were arrested during the pre-planned operation,” a spokesperson for West Midlands Police said.

“Another man at the address was shot by police during the warrant and has been taken to hospital with an arm injury. It is not believed to be life threatening.”

The arrested men, aged 21, 35, 45 and 52, and women aged 59 and 64 – all from Birmingham – have been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and remain in custody.

The shooting has been automatically referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for review and the investigation continues.

Police said the arrests were not connected to the Conservative Party conference, which is currently taking place in Birmingham.
