Police share new CCTV image in search for escaped prisoner

A convict who fled from a South Gloucestershire prison is yet to be caught by police.

Avon and Somerset Police has released another image of Shannon Gray, after he absconded from HMP Leyhill on Saturday.

He was last seen at the prison, which is near the village of Tortworth, at about 6pm that evening (August 8).

Members of the public have been urged to call 999 if they see the 38-year-old.

In a renewed appeal today (Tuesday), a force spokesperson said: "If you see Shannon Gray, do not approach him but call 999 immediately.

"If you have any other information about his whereabouts, call 101."

The force had already released a photo of Gray, but the new image shows his build and the clothes he was last seen in - navy blue jogging bottoms, a grey T-shirt and grey trainers.

Gray is described as white, about 5ft 11ins and of slight build.

He is serving an indeterminate sentence, following a conviction in 2007 for wounding with intent.

Police say he has links to the Taunton area, and that anyone with information should contact them quoting reference number 5220178468.

Leyhill is an open prison, which usually means inmates are allowed to leave the premises for certain reasons such as employment, and have minimal supervision.

They are largely trusted to return of their own accord, but police said Gray failed to report back to the facility.
