Police set up cordon around canal after 'glove and flip flop' found in water

Police have revealed the bizarre reason a cordon was set up at a canal in Lady Bay.

Four police cars were at the scene in Rutland Road and officers taped of an alleyway leading to the Grantham Canal on Thursday, July 2.

They were initially called to a sighting of clothing in the water.

But following the incident, Nottinghamshire Police's control room supervisor, Scott Roebuck, said: "Officers were called to Rutland Road in Lady Bay on Thursday lunchtime following a report of a sighting of clothing in the water.

"We were quickly on the scene, expecting quite a serious incident and officers taped off the area so we could try to assist.

"Thankfully, it turned out to be just a glove and a flip flop floating in the water.

"There have been no further reports of anyone falling into the river, so officers left the scene shortly after 1pm."
