Police seize van after spotting it 'crabbing' on M5

A van has been seized by police after they spotted it 'crabbing' on the M5, near Portishead.

Footage shows the vehicle edging between lanes on the motorway, before officers stopped it at Gordano Services.

The vehicle had a loose suspension bolt, which caused it to move sideways across the carriageway - known as crabbing.

Avon and Somerset's road policing team said: "Good spot by ASPWestSom officers of this van crabbing its merry way up the M5.

"Stopped at Gordano Services, examined by PG9 officer and immediately prohibited due to a loose suspension bolt.

"New MoT required."

Martin Hewitt, chair of the National Police Chiefs’ Council, warned yesterday, officers across the UK will be stepping up patrols as the pandemic reached its most 'critical point'.

Talking at the Downing Street press conference, he said: "It's important for me to be really clear, at this critical time we will have more officers out on dedicated patrols to take action against the small few who are letting us all down."
