Police seize stun guns and other weapons in North Glasgow as man charged for allegedly importing firearms

A man has been charged with allegedly importing firearms after organised crime police seized stun guns and other weapons.

Officers from Police Scotland's Organised Crime Partnership (OCP) raided an address in Bishopsgate Gardens in the north of Glasgow, following a joint operation with the National Crime Agency (NCA).

Police seized two stun guns and three other weapons which have now been sent for forensic analysis.

A 53-year-old man was detained at the address and later charged with firearm offences. He is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on July 8.

The investigation followed the seizure of a disguised stun gun by Border Force officers carrying out checks on incoming mail.

The NCA's John McGowan, operations manager for the OCP, said: "Today's operation has seen a number of dangerous weapons taken out of circulation and demonstrates our ongoing determination to protect the people of Scotland.

"The Organised Crime Partnership will continue to work with partners like Border Force to do just that."
