ACT police have recovered a snake, along with several thousand dollars worth of stolen items from a Belconnen home.
Multiple police officers carried out a search warrant at a home on Palana Place in Giralang about 10am on Tuesday.
Officers recovered a snake, believed to be a jungle python, from the property, along with a loaded sawn-off shotgun, car parts, high-end pushbikes, identity documents, tool kits and golf bags.
Officer in charge of Belconnen Police Station Sergeant Brett Booth said a man was expected to be charged in relation to stolen property and possession of a stolen firearm.
Sergeant Booth said police had started the investigation in relation to the stolen goods on Friday after an interaction with a man.
"We were stunned by the sheer volume of the materials that were located," he said.
"This is a concern for police that people have access to these items and also that there is a significant amount of stolen property."
Police remained at the property on Tuesday afternoon.
Earlier in the day, structural integrity issues at the back of the property forced police to hold off further searches of the home until firefighters arrived to stabilise the building.

Many police officers were seen at the home wearing ventilation masks.
Domestic Animal Services Canberra rangers were also at the home at the time of the search warrant.
An ACT police spokesman said it was not known when the items were thought to have been stolen but it was believed they were stolen in multiple incidents.
