Police seize hatchet and knife during vehicle stop in Belfast

Police have seized a hatchet and a knife during a vehicle stop in East Belfast .

Officers from the Tactical Support Group searched a car they felt was suspicious and discovered the weapons inside.

They have reported the person associated with the car to the Public Prosecution Service.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "People often ask us why we do vehicle checkpoints.

"During one vehicle checkpoint Tactical Support Group officers stopped and searched a suspicious vehicle in East Belfast and located a hatchet and a knife.

"During the same vehicle checkpoint a further vehicle was stopped with no insurance.

"All involved have been reported to the PPS for a number of offences."
