Police seize drugs in Cathedral Quarter crackdown

A quantity of Class B drugs have been seized and a man arrested for outstanding warrants during a police operation in Belfast's Cathedral Quarter.

The Tennent Street Neighbourhood Policing Team used resources including bicycles, plain clothed-officers and foot patrols during its sweep of the cultural and nightlife zone around Saint Anne’s Cathedral. During the operation, officers seized the Class B drugs, arrested the man for outstanding warrants and dealt with incidents of antisocial behaviour.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland recently stated that one of its priorities is taking drugs off the streets and the current operation was part of the force's fight against illegal substances.

Class B drugs include amphetamines, barbiturates, cannabis and dihydrocodeine. These are considered by Parliament to be less harmful than Class A drugs, although certain Class B drugs are reclassified to Class A if they have been prepared for injection. These include amphetamines, dihydrocodeine and codeine.
