Police seize drugs and thousands of pounds in Salford after community tip-off

A 'substantial amount' of drugs and thousands of pounds have been seized from a property in Salford following a tip-off from the community.

Residents had told Greater Manchester Police and the Crimestoppers charity about drug-related activity at an address in Walkden.

Following their concerns, officers used a warrant to search the property, where a substantial amount of cannabis and prescription drugs were found along with cash.

A man was arrested at the scene for drug-related offences following the search and is currently in police custody.

Posting on a GMP Facebook page, Sgt Mark Livesey said: "You said, we did.

"Following information we had received both directly to GMP and via Crimestoppers, the north west neighbourhood policing team started early this morning in order to execute a drugs warrant in Walkden South.

"During the search a substantial amount of cannabis and prescription drugs were located, in addition to a quantity of money, believed to total several thousand pounds.

"At the address an adult male was arrested for drug-related offences and is currently in custody awaiting interview.

"Information like this from the local community is invaluable to our efforts to tackle crime in your neighbourhoods and we thank you."

Anyone with information about issues in their community, such as drug dealing or anti-social behaviour, can contact GMP by calling 101 or report it on the force's website.

Alternatively, information can be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
