Police seize car, raid home in murder investigation

Police investigating the suspected broad daylight murder of a man at Port Stephens seized a car in the Lower Hunter this week.

The white Holden Commodore was found on Maitland Road at Cessnock on Tuesday.

Police had the vehicle towed from the scene so it could be further examined.

It came before officers from Strike Force Breve, set up to investigate the shooting death of 45-year-old David William King in a quiet Salt Ash street, raided a home at Raymond Terrace about 1.30pm on Wednesday.

Police said in a statement they seized several items, but they would not comment on what the objects were, specifically.

The Newcastle Herald reported in August that detectives were investigating whether the fatal shooting, near homes on Hideaway Drive about 1.45pm on August, was drug-related.

The Tanilba Bay man was believed to have been driving a Ford Raptor Ute when it hit a tree.

He was soon found dead outside the vehicle soon after the crash, with a shotgun wound to the head.

Police are investigating whether the shooter was a passenger in the vehicle - that person was believed to have been picked-up nearby in a getaway car.

Police said in August they were treating the alleged murder as targeted.

Mr King was on bail after pleading guilty to drug charges at the time he died and had previously been sentenced to three years in jail over four drug supply counts.

No-one has been charged over the shooting.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the alleged murder to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Tips can be given to police anonymously through the Crime Stoppers phone line or internet portal.
