Police seize car after finding driver was uninsured

Police seized a car they had been looking for after finding the driver was uninsured.

Officers spotted the vehicle, which they had been on the lookout for, being driven around Wallsend.

After finding the driver was uninsured, the car was seized by police and the individual reported.

A Northumbria Police statement on Twitter in the early hours of Sunday morning said: “Driving around #Wallsend in a car that we’re looking for is 1 thing, doing it whilst uninsured shows the mentality and total disregard some people have.

“Driver reported and car #seized.”

According to the Motor Insurers' Bureau, someone in the UK is injured by an uninsured or untraced "hit and run" driver every 20 minutes.

That equates to 26,000 injuries each year or nearly one in every five road traffic casualties.

In 2019 over 137,000 vehicles were seized across the UK because they had no insurance.
