Police seize car after driver does 50mph in fast lane of the M1

Police seized a driver's car after they were doing 50mph in lane three of the M1.

Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit carried out the seizure last night (Thursday, June 6).

They said the driver caused other road users to "move out to get by" and they also found the driver had a provisional licence.

Police have powers to issue fixed penalty notices of £100 for careless driving such as tailgating and middle lane hogging.

From June 2018, learner drivers have been able to take driving lessons on the motorway, but they must be accompanied by an approved driving instructor or in a car fitted with dual controls.

The policing unit tweeted: "M1. Lane hogger doing 50mph in lane three of the motorway. Causing others to have move out to get by, clueless. Found to only have a provisional licence. Now hogging the pavement walking home."
