Police seize cannabis and amphetamine in Merthyr Tydfil stop-searches

Police in Merthyr Tydfil seized amphetamine and cannabis in stop and search operations in the town centre, they said today (September 5).

Officers from South Wales Police Merthyr Tydfil said on their Twitter account that they conducted a total of five stop-searches in the centre of the town on Saturday night (September 4).

The force tweeted: "Officers have conducted 5 stop searches in Merthyr Town Centre tonight resulting in amphetamine and cannabis being seized.

"Suspects have been dealt with accordingly. #Proactive #DrugsOffTheStree t #NotInOurTown."

Last month, police in Merthyr Tydfil issued an alert over dangerous fake diazepam circulating in the town.

One person died and another needed hospital treatment after using pills from the "particularly dangerous" batch of the drug, also known as street Valium.

In a statement, the force urged anyone who used the drug to get immediate help if they felt unwell.
