Police have announced the seizure of almost 14 million methamphetamine pills and more than 100 kg of crystal meth or ya ice in four separate cases in which three suspects were nabbed, according to deputy national police chief Chalermkiat Srivorakarn.
The drugs were seized between Oct 27 and Nov 6 in Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang and Ayutthaya, according to the police press briefing on the cases led by Pol Gen Chalermkiat yesterday.
Most of the drugs were found in Ayutthaya where 10.3 million meth pills and 100 kg of ya ice were confiscated from a truck driven by Prateep Yajina along the Asia highway in Bang Pa-in district of Ayuttthaya on Oct 27.
Police expanded their search and raided Mr Prateep's home in Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai where they found 12 million baht worth of cash suspected to be drug money.
The rest of the drugs were seized from Chiang Rai, Lamphun and Lampang. In Chiang Rai, 3.5 million meth pills packed in 18 bags were abandoned in a forest in tambon Mae Pao of Phaya Mengrai district.
