Police seek red Nissan after attempted entry into military site

Police are appealing for public assistance after officers found that the gates of a Salt Ash military site had been damaged during what they believe was an attempt to trespass onto the facility.

Investigators are asking anyone who saw a red Nissan Patrol in the suburb or in surrounding areas on Saturday morning to come forward.

Officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District attended the Salt Ash military site at about 3.20am on Saturday after an alarm was activated.

Upon arriving, officers found gates to the facility had sustained "significant damage", which they suspected was caused by a vehicle.

Despite the damage, police believe no one was able to enter the site.

Investigators are now appealing for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
