Police seek man who posed as gardener and stole thousands from elderly woman

An elderly woman was conned out of thousands of pounds by a man posing as a gardener.

Greater Manchester Police have released a CCTV image of man wanted in connection with the crime.

Police say a man gained the trust of an 86-year-old woman over a two week period.

He pretended to be a gardener and took to the woman to a bank, encouraging her to withdraw cash for services that were never carried out.

Police say the woman was defrauded of at least £2,800.

GMP, posting on Facebook, said: "Do you recognise this male? Following a fraud against an 86 year old female victim in September 2020 police are asking for assistance in identifying the below male.

"In the Denton area, over the course of two weeks, the offender has gained the trust of the victim posing as a gardener.

"Once trust was built the offender has taken the victim to their bank on numerous occasions and encouraged them to withdraw money for gardening services which were never carried out.

"As a result the elderly victim has been defrauded of at least £2,800."

Anyone who recognises the man should contact the officer in the case; PC Druck on 18482@gmp.police.uk quoting crime reference CRI/06GG/0017159/50
