A truck driver believed to be the first to pass the scene of a collision in Canberra on Monday has been urged to come forward.
The two-car crash on the Monaro Highway in the early hours of Monday killed 19-year-old Lachlan Seary.
ACT Policing has called for a truck driver believed to be the first vehicle to pass the collision to come forward. Police have reviewed CCTV footage from a nearby service station which shows the truck driving past at 1.10am, about the same time as the crash.
Police do not believe the truck driver was involved in the crash but may be able to provide information to police.
Detective Inspector Donna Hofmeier said the driver may have passed without seeing the crash.
"This tragic incident happened late at night on a length of road where there are no streetlights," she said.
"We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen either of the vehicles involved prior to the collision, and we believe the truck driver would have seen at least one of the two vehicles prior to the collision.
"I would like to ask any truck operators to check if one of their vehicles was in the area at the time, as we want to have the clearest possible picture of what happened."
Mr Seary was a junior ice hockey player for Canberra Brave. The team will dedicate the 2021 season to the "bright talent" and wear jerseys with his initials on them.
Anyone with dash-cam footage from the area at the time, or information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Please quote reference 6748253. Information can be provided anonymously.
