Police seek dash-cam film as one dead, one critical in separate crashes

POLICE are calling for public help after two weekend crashes in the Hunter that left one man dead and a teenager in critical condition.

A man has died after a single-vehicle crash north of Raymond Terrace.

Police said the man was driving a Holden towing a box trailer on The Bucketts Way about 1.50pm on Friday when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.

The 32-year-old man, who was the sole occupant of the car, was trapped in the vehicle.

Paramedics arrived on scene and unsuccessfully attempted to revive the driver.

Port Stephens-Hunter police attended and commenced an investigation. A report will be prepared for the coroner.

In a later incident, police are seeking public help after a Central Coast crash in the early hours of Saturday that left a teenager critically injured.

Emergency services were called to Sparks Road at Halloran shortly before 2.30am after reports motorist had discovered a car in bushland.

Tuggerah Lakes officers found a Nissan X-Trail at the scene that had hit a tree roughly 50 metres away from the road.

Its driver, 17, was found with serious injuries. He was taken to the John Hunter Hospital where police said he remained in a critical condition.

Police established a crime scene and will forensically examine the area for clues as to the circumstances of the crash.

Any witnesses or drivers who were in either area at the time, or who may have recorded dash-cam footage that might assist investigators, are urged to call Raymond Terrace police station on 4983 7599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
