Police searching for youths after 'suspicious' fire at County Durham barn

An investigation has been launched after a fire broke out in County Durham.

Police have said they are treating the blaze as "suspicious" and are searching for a group of youths.

Emergency services were called to the incident at the rear Stangarth Lane in Staindrop at around 7pm on Friday.

The fire had been started near a barn and caused damage to a cattle feeder, officers say.

A joint investigation with County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service has now been launched and police are appealling for information from the public.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said : "Officers are treating the fire as suspicious and would like to speak to several youths who were seen in the area at the same time.

"If you have any information call 101 and ask to speak to PC 1813 Dave Williams."
