Police searching for wanted Sunderland man Robert Friendship Smith

Police have launched an appeal to the public to help locate a wanted Sunderland man.

Robert Friendship Smith is wanted in connection with an array of alleged offences

The 23-year-old knows he is wanted and is actively evading officers.

Smith is known to frequent the Sunderland area but was last seen in the Wallsend area.

Superintendent Andy Huddleston said: “We are now asking anybody who knows his whereabouts – or where he might be hiding – to come forward with information.

“The best scenario for everybody is Smith handing himself in to the nearest police station.

“We are continuing to gather intelligence and carry out searches of associated addresses – and that work will continue.

“Harbouring a fugitive who is evading arrest is a criminal offence that could lead to prosecution and potential imprisonment. We do not want anybody to get into trouble on Smith’s account.

“If you have seen him, or believe you know where he is staying, please pick up the phone and pass on that information to us.”

Anyone with information about Smith’s whereabouts is asked to call 101 quoting log 579 290521.

Alternatively, you can pass on information via independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
