Police searching for wanted Newcastle man who has been on the run for six months

Have you seen this man?

Police are searching for Michael Sowerby, who has been on the run for six months, to speak to him in relation to two serious assaults earlier this year.

The assaults are believed to have taken place outside of the Legion club in Blakelaw at about 10.30pm on July 4.

Investigating officers want to speak to Sowerby, 26, of Ponteland Road, Newcastle, who is also wanted on an emergency prison recall following a suspected breach of his licence conditions in February.

Detective Constable Lisa Lumley, of Northumbria Police, said: “Micahel Sowerby has been wanted since February and we believe he has been avoiding police.

“He knows he is wanted and has ignored numerous attempts by us to contact him and so now we are appealing for help from the public.

“If you have seen Michael in recent weeks, or if you have any information that may lead us to his whereabouts, then do the right thing and get in touch.

“Anyone who is helping him avoid arrest could themselves be committing a criminal offence and so you have to ask yourself, is he worth being arrested for?”

Sowerby is described as white, about 6ft tall, of slim build and with short brown hair.

Anyone who has seen him, or knows his whereabouts, is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference SRN 522988.

You can also contact officers through the Northumbria Police website or by contacting independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
