Police searching for man in connection with suspected bank fraud in Gateshead

Police investigating a suspected bank fraud in Gateshead have released an image of a man they wish to speak to.

Staff at a Whickham bank reported to police that a customer was acting suspiciously on August 4.

It is understood they had entered the bank and asked to cash a cheque for £12,000.

Due to the large amount of money on the cheque, staff asked for the customer to provide identification.

They claimed it was in their vehicle and left the premises, but they never returned.

It has also been reported that the customer has attempted to cash a cheque in the same manner at other banks.

Police have now released an image of a man they wish to trace to establish the full circumstances and have asked for help from the public.

It is believed the man could assist police with their investigation and anyone who knows him is asked to get in touch with officers.

If you can assist then report online at the Northumbria Police website or call 101 quoting reference 087342G/20.
