Police searching for man in attempted bank robberies in Los Feliz

Aug. 14--Authorities are searching for a man in a string of attempted bank robberies in Los Feliz, only one of which was successful.

In the first instance Thursday, the man attempted to rob a Chase bank branch in the 1600 block of North Vermont Avenue about 1 p.m., FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said. About 40 minutes later, he tried to rob a Bank of America branch in the 4500 block of Franklin Avenue.

The man failed both times, but got away with an undisclosed amount of money on his third attempt at a Citibank branch in the 1900 block of North Hillhurst Avenue, Eimiller said.

Witnesses described the man as wearing a different colored shirt at each location, according to KTLA-TV Channel 5. The Los Angeles Police Department's Robbery-Homicide Division, which responds to high-profile crimes, is handling the investigation.

One witness told investigators that the man wrote a demand note that read, "I am Marine trained," Eimiller said.
