Police searching for man 'hit by car' in Heywood as large cordon put in place

Police are yet to trace a man reported to have been struck by a car in Heywood. A large cordon was put in place for several hours following the incident on Peel Lane just after 11.40am this morning (Tuesday).

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed there had been a collision and said no injuries had been reported.

The Manchester Evening News now understands they were alerted by the ambulance service after they received a report of a man being stuck by a car on the road.

When officers attended the man had left the scene and it is understood they have not yet been able to speak to him or ascertain his condition.

The car is also said to have left the scene. The intersection of Peel Lane and George Street was taped off for around four hours before being lifted at around 3:30pm.

Forensic crime scene investigation officers were among those that attended as police tried to establish what had happened and trace those involved.

Nearby residents and a shopkeeper said officers had been going door-to-door and asking for anyone CCTV footage. No arrests have been made.

Earlier, GMP said: "At around 11:41am this morning (Tuesday 16 May 2023), officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Peel Lane in Heywood. No injuries have been reported at this time, officers remain at the scene to conduct further enquiries."
