Police searching for five missing people have found three of them dead

The search for five missing people has ended in tragedy, with three of the individuals being found dead after Gwent Police located the car they had been travelling in near Cardiff.

Sophie Russon, 20, Eve Smith, 21, Darcy Ross, 21, Rafel Jeanne, 24, and Shane Loughlin, 32, were last seen in the early hours of Saturday morning after journeying from Porthcawl to the capital in a Volkswagen Tiguan. Officers discovered the vehicle just after midnight in the St Mellons area.

They believe it had been in a road traffic collision and careered off the A48. Sadly, three people were found deceased, while the other two have been transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Specialist officers are now supporting the families of those involved and enquiries are currently ongoing. Anyone with any information are asked to call 101, or send Gwent Police a direct message, quoting 2300071791.

Gwent Police said: “The case has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct in line, with normal procedures.”
