Police searching for a missing Hamilton man have recovered a body

Police searching for a missing Hamilton man have today recovered a body.

Officers were called to an area of the River Clyde at Bothwell Bridge near Hamilton at around 9.45am.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "We can confirm that the body of a man has been recovered from the River Clyde at Bothwell Bridge near Hamilton.

"Officers were made aware around 9.45am on Sunday, April 19.

"The body is still to be formally identified but the family of Brian Porteous, 80, has been informed.

"Mr Porteous was reported missing from his home in Hamilton on Saturday, 21 March.

"There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."

Police made several appeals to help trace Mr Porteous after he went missing from his home just over three weeks ago.
