Police search Woolton car park as area taped off in murder probe

Police were today searching a car park in Woolton Village as part of a murder investigation into the death of a 64-year-old woman.

An area of Allerton Road was cordoned off by officers today, March 9, including the village's "Duck Pond" car park.

Merseyside Police have confirmed that patrols are in the area as part of the ongoing murder investigation.

Janice Child, 64, was pronounced dead at her home on Kings Drive in Woolton on Friday, March 6.

Police and paramedics were called to Mrs Child's semi-detached property at 1am on Friday, launching a murder probe after confirmation of her death.

A post-mortem examination concluded she had suffered "severe blunt force head injuries".

Forensics officers have since carried out a major search of her home which has been cordoned off since the discovery.

Robert Child, of Kings Drive in Pensby, Wirral, has been charged with murder and appeared before Liverpool Magistrates' Court this morning.

A 33-year-old woman, from Wirral, who was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, has been released on conditional bail pending further inquiries.

Robert Child has not yet entered a plea over the murder but accepts causing the fatal injuries that led to the death of Ms Child.

Judge Menary refused to grant bail at Liverpool Magistrates Court today and Child will be remanded in custody until his next appearance in court.
