A police search was underway at a canal in Tameside this evening.
A search unit van was spotted stationed on Alexandra Road in Hyde, near the Peak Forest Canal, at around 7.30pm. Divers were then pictured searching the water.
Tactical Aid Unit officers trawled the surrounding area near the canal as part of the search. Crime scene investigators were also at the scene this evening.

The canal path was cordoned off by officers while the work was carried out. A sign was also put in place urging boats to stop.
The Manchester Evening News has contacted Greater Manchester Police for details on the nature of the search, but no information has been released at this stage.
