7-month-old boy found safe after SUV stolen from Marquette Park, was not in the vehicle: police

Jaylen Mojica | Chicago Police Department

A 7-month-old boy was found safe after he was reported missing from a vehicle that was stolen Monday in Marquette Park, but was later found to have never been in the vehicle, according to Chicago police.

Jaylen Mojica was reported to be inside a gray SUV a 30-year-old woman left running when she went into a convenience store about 12:45 p.m. in the 2700 block of West 71st Street, Chicago police said. While she was inside, someone jumped into the SUV and drove north on California Avenue.

The vehicle was found about 2:40 p.m. in the 1400 block of S. Keeler Avenue, but the baby was not inside, police said.

About 8:43 p.m., police said the baby had been located safely, but was in the care of a babysitter and was never in the SUV.

Area One detectives are investigating.
