Police search for missing snorkeller on South Coast

Police are searching for a man who went missing while snorkelling at Batemans Bay on Monday.

Emergency services were called to Richmond Beach in the Murramarang National Park, north of Batemans Bay, following reports a snorkeller went into the water and wasn't seen again.

Police have been told the 39-year-old man entered the water from the rocks to go snorkelling. When he failed to return and could not be located, authorities were notified.

Officers attached to South Coast Police District attended and commenced a search of the area with assistance from Surf Life Saving NSW, Marine Rescue, Eurobodalla Shire Council Lifeguard and the Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter.

The search was pulled back at 8pm on Monday night as daylight faded and resumed at 6am on Tuesday.

Assistance has been sought from the Marine Area Command, Police Divers and PolAir.
