Police search for man who disappeared after saying he was 'heading home' from Wishaw

Police are searching for a man who disappeared after saying he was 'heading home' on Wednesday.

John Dunnigan travelled to Wishaw around 11am on April 14 and called to say he was heading back to the Overton area around 3pm the same day, but never arrived.

The 40-year-old has never gone missing before and his disappearance has been described as 'extremely out of character'.

His family reported him missing on Thursday and are urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to get in touch.

John is described as 5ft 6ins, thin, with short brown hair which is greying and grey facial hair.

When he was last seen, he was wearing a black jumper with Henleys written on it, black jogging bottoms and a black hat.

Inspector Hugh Burns from Motherwell Police Station said: “John has never gone missing before and it is extremely out of character for him not to be in contact with his family for any length of time.

“They are becoming extremely worried about him and I am appealing to anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to come forward.

“It is possible John may have travelled to the Dundee area, where he is from originally, and I would urge people there to keep a look out for him a report any sightings to police.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland through 101, quoting incident number 2551 of Thursday, 15 April, 2021.”
