Police search for man after officer punched in the head

A police officer has been knocked to the ground and repeatedly punched after finding drugs when searching a man in the Glass House Mountains, north of Brisbane.

It is the second serious assault of a police officer in south-east Queensland in the past two days.

Police stopped a white Toyota Camry on Johnston Road in the Glass House Mountains just before 5:00pm on Sunday.

A man investigators believe is 39-year-old Ashley Dodd was searched.

Officers found drugs including some oxycodone tablets.

It is alleged he then punched a police officer in the head, knocking him to the ground, before repeatedly punching him.

Police said the man ordered the driver and a nine-year-old child out of the car and then sped off.

The officer suffered facial, and head injuries and a dislocated finger.

The driver is assisting police with their enquiries.

Police are also still searching for a man who tried to choke a police officer after being pulled over on the Sunshine Coast on Friday afternoon.

It is alleged he attacked a male sergeant on a motorcycle who had intercepted him at Balmoral Ridge in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

Police said the officer was punched, kicked in the head, choked and had his helmet stolen with his body-worn camera attached.

The officer used his taser and capsicum spray but he fled in his white Toyota van.

Police want to speak with 45-year-old Keven De Vroom over the incident but are warning people he should not be approached.
