Tip-off leads to discovery of Canberra man who went missing while birdwatching

Police are concerned for missing Canberra man Peter Morris.

Police say Peter Morris, who went missing two days ago in Namadgi National Park, is recovering in hospital.

Mr Morris had been seen asking rangers about the best birdwatching spots at the Tharwa park about 1:00pm on Wednesday.

Sergeant David Bell from Police Search and Rescue said a member of the public had tipped police off about the 56-year-old's location.

"He's well," Sergeant Bell said.

"I can't comment on his condition. He's well considering he's been out for two nights now in the bush."

"He's been transported to hospital... and he'll be looked after. He's in great hands."

While Mr Morris was a regular birdwatcher, search coordinator Senior Constable Paul Yates said he was unfamiliar with the area.

Yesterday, ACT Policing Station Sergeant Greg O'Ryan said Mr Morris drove there alone and his car had remained locked inside the park's gates.

Station Sergeant O'Ryan said Mr Morris' family alerted authorities on Wednesday night and were "obviously concerned".

ACT State Emergency Service search coordinator Senior Constable Paul Yates said the search had been extensive and "fairly full-on".
