Police search for Adamstown home invader with knife

Police were searching for a man believed to be carrying a knife after an aggravated break-and-enter in Adamstown on Sunday.

Officers were called to an address in Glebe Road about 10.15am after reports a man had broken into a house.

Witnesses told police the man had fled the scene on foot and jumped a number of backyard fences.

It is believed he was carrying a knife, but there were no reports of injuries.

Officers attached to Newcastle City Police District established a crime scene and, with the help of the Dog Squad, set up a perimeter to search for the man.

A police spokesperson said on Sunday afternoon that inquiries were ongoing.

Meanwhile, police officers charged 37 people and seized eight knives during a two-day operation to disrupt crime on Sydney's public transport network.
