Police search begins as street is cordoned off following serious incident in Somercotes

Police have launched a search of a street on the Nottinghamshire border which was cordoned off following a serious incident.

Officers with search poles were seen forming a line and combing through undergrowth in the area of Somercotes Hill in Somercotes, near Alfreton.

A drone was also launched as a search took place in the air although no new details have yet been released into the nature of the incident, Derbyshire Live reports.

The road has been closed off since the early hours of Thursday morning, November 25, following what police described as a 'disturbance'

A cordon was put in place sealing off a 100 yard section of the street, with officers standing guard.

At one stage, police launched a drone to survey the area from the air.

At around 12noon, more police vehicles turned up and officers began their line search.

Somercotes, close to Derbyshire's border with Nottinghamshire, is a former mining village and was once surrounded by more than five pits.
