Police search Ballyclare school when students became 'unwell' after suspected taking of a substance

Police searched a Co Antrim school on Tuesday when two students became unwell after they were suspected of taking an "unknown substance".

PSNI officers and dog units searched Ballyclare Secondary School on Tuesday after receiving reports that two students had become unwell after the suspected taking of a substance.

It is understood that some year groups in the school were placed in assembly and sports halls while the search was carried out.

It is believed that the unknown substance may have been connected to a vape pen that the students had been using.

Following the search of the school, police say that nothing untoward had been found.

Two students were checked by medical staff and allowed home.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police attended premises in the Doagh Road area of Ballyclare on Tuesday 13th October after reports were received that two youths had become unwell after it was suspected that they had taken an unknown substance.

"A search of the premises was carried out and nothing untoward was found. The youths were checked by medical staff and allowed home."

Ballyclare Secondary School has been contacted for comment, but not responded at the time of publication.
