Police seal off road after man seriously injured in stabbing

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a stabbing in Blackley .

Police were called to Southdown Crescent shortly before midday on Sunday to reports that a man had been stabbed.

Paramedics and the air ambulance were also sent to the scene.

A stretch of Southdown Crescent at its junction with Evesham Road was cordoned off as officers began an investigation.

A forensics team continued to comb the area for evidence through Sunday afternoon.

A blue Ford saloon was seen straddling Southdown Crescent, while a forensic tent was partially covering a white Ford, which was being examined by officials.

A number of liveried GMP vehicles and paramedics have been stationed in the area.

A GMP spokesperson confirmed: "Police were called at 11.45am to reports of a man stabbed on Southdown Crescent.

"A male adult has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

Neighbours reacted to the stabbing on Sunday afternoon.

One resident, who declined to be named, told the M.E.N: "I heard all the sirens and thought they were going to the home around the corner for people with dementia. I didn't take any notice until I looked out of the window and saw all the police cars."

Another said: "I heard the police and looked out and saw loads of them. I've been here 50 years and it's really gone down from how it used to be. It's happening all the time these days and it's what you expect."

Both residents reported that there had been another stabbing at a bus stop on nearby Charlestown Road on Saturday. It's not known if there is any link between that incident and Sunday's stabbing.
