Police seal off Edinburgh beauty spot after discovery of mystery blood-stained item

An Edinburgh beauty spot, popular with dog walkers, has been cordoned off in massive police response after the discovery of a blood-stained item.

Dozens of police officers were deployed to Corstorphine Hill woods in the capital on Tuesday morning after a local reported the find.

It’s not known what the item was but there was a heavy police presence at the entrance to the woods in Cairnmuir Road.

Teams of officers were carrying out searches in the park while officers stationed outside refused entry to everyone.

A cordon was still in place on Tuesday evening as officers attempted to establish why the item was dumped in the woods.

A spokeswoman said: “Police resources are in the Corstorphine Hill area following the discovery of what appears to be a blood-stained item.

“Examination of the item will be carried out to confirm what it is and officers are carrying out a search of the area.

“No other related items have been found and enquiries are ongoing.

"Police were notified around 9:35am on Tuesday, 20 October 2020.”
